History
I purchased our 1968 Silver Eagle 01 in 2003, and have been converting ever since. We had never been to a bus rally, and it seemed like a good time to start one. My wife and I decided we needed to be closer to her parents, so we moved to Abilene Texas in December 2006. While I was driving our bus we call "Dreamscape" from Southern California to Abilene I broke down in Palm Springs. I lost the air compressor, which meant no brakes! I called my wife to put out an SOS on the MAK BBS, now it's called the BCM BBS, under new owners. I had several phone calls and two in particular still stand out to this day. One was from Clifford Allen, he said he thought he had a replacement air compressor and would bring it to me the next day. He arrived with his wife Sonja as promised, all the way from Mojave Valley AZ, he pulled out the compressor from their van and it matched up perfect. Later I found out Clifford has a tremendous amount of Detroit Diesel and overall Bus knowledge. I installed it and I was ready to head out the next day for Tucson AZ. I arrived on the evening of December 24, 2006 at my daughters house. What a great way to spend Christmas Eve! I couldn't have planned it any better if I had tried. We had supper and I played around with my grandchildren and it was time for bed, I was exhausted. I left the next day and drove all the way to Abilene, arrived at about 5:30 pm just in time to open presents with my wife and her parents. All Clifford and Sonja would say, we just want you to make it to your new home in time for Christmas. I did and they are true "Bus Angels".
The other phone call came from Sonnie Gray. After we spoke having discussed my problem and told him that Clifford and his wife were going to drive over to lend a hand. We talked about bus rally's, he had always wanted to do one in Texas just never had. Sonnie had spent the last several years taking care of his dear wife Patti. With his help and the help of Darrin Bruner, we started the Texas Bus Roundup.
